Project of projects …

May 8th, 2012

I have many projects that and old and new that I’d really like to get done this year.  Yes, I know the year is approaching it’s halfway point.  I figure I might well make a list here to remind me.  So here we go (in rough order of priority):

1. Finish 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe maintenance and cleanup (this is almost done).

2. Sell 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe.  I’ll place an add here and craigslist to start.  I’ll ask $3600 OBO.

3. Get tires unmounted from rims and disposed of.

4. Fix outdoor curtains for Laura.

5. Call our handyman for a few jobs.

6. Remodel garage – BIG ONE – hoping to complete by fall.

6. Sell 95% of my RC car stuff.

7. Sort and possibly sell some of my firearms.

8. Sort through and sell some of my collectibles.

That’s What I can think of for now.  There’s more, I will blog about this crap.  BORING!

Misc. Update …

February 2nd, 2012

2011 was a busy year!

Most the year was spent having fun with my girlfriend who I am now living in sin with.  This is important news since out dwelling, mostly the garage though, is going to start becoming the focal point of this blog.

Laura and I somewhere between LA and Big Sur January 2011.

The house we share has the one feature that is near and dear to me, a big garage!  I’ll be documenting it’s transformation along with other my usual rambling again soon.

Wow! Not a single post in 2011!

January 24th, 2012

So there was that.  I did not post a single thing in 2011.  It’s 2012 and I’ve got a few things up my sleeves and it’s time to wipe the dust off this blog here.

Yo Gabba Gabba VANS ! ! !

“I Don’t Belong”

Dexter Adam Sandler joke reference ! ! !

October 4th, 2010

He’s back!

Okay, I didn’t dig the first episode of the new season, but the second was much better.  Of course that’s not why I’m posting.  In roughly the 32nd minute of episode 2 Masuka says “Fuck me up the goat ass.”  I have been saying that (or variations of it) for years ever since I heard Adam Sandler’s – The Talking Goat.

You’re welcome.

FUCK YOU!

Enid

September 22nd, 2010

Enid, as played by Thora Birch in Ghost World might be the hottest chick ever in any movie.  Yeah I’m weird like that.  I think Enid is way hotter than Rebecca as played by the often drooled over Scarlett Johansson.  Just Saying.

Life

September 15th, 2010

“Sometimes I try to do things but it just doesn’t work out the way I want it to, and I get real frustrated and then like I try hard to do it, and I like, take my time but it just doesn’t work out the way I want it to. It’s like, I concentrate on it real hard, but it just doesn’t work out. And everything I do and everything I try, it never turns out. It’s like, I need time to figure these things out, but there’s always someone there going “hey mike, you know we’ve been noticing you’ve been having a lot of problems lately, you know? You need to maybe get away. And like, maybe you should talk about it, you’ll feel a lot better.” And I’m all like “oh, nah, it’s ok, you know. I’ll figure it out. Just leave me alone, I’ll figure it out, you know? I’m just working on it by myself.” And they go “well, you know, if you wanna talk about it, I’ll be here, you know? And you’ll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it. So why don’t you talk about it?” I go “no, I don’t want to! I’m ok. I’ll figure it out myself!” But they just keep bugging me, they just keep bugging me, and it builds up inside.”

RIP Shoya Tomizawa

September 5th, 2010

Today we lost a great up and coming talent in the motorcycle racing world.  Shoya Tomizawa lost his life at today’s Moto2 race at Misano.  You can read more about the accident at Autosport.  There is video online, but I don’t have the heart to post it.

He was only 19 years old.

You will be missed.

NOFX still has it …

May 21st, 2010

Creeping Out Sara & Eddie, Bruce and Paul

These two songs are strangely awesome. Creeping Out Sara is about Tegan and Sara who I happen to like quite a bit. Eddie, Bruce and Paul is about Iron Maiden which I grew up on and still love. Interesting to me that these ended up on the same album.

Which reminds me of the time Serge an I went to go see KISS on their full make-up reunion tour. We parked in my little 1980 Honda Civic at the forum and were consuming our pre-show beers when a van parked right next to us. Who come out of the van? Guttermounth! I was even wearing a Guttermouth shirt. They even wrote a song where they mention the KISS show. Kinda funny.

Back to NOFX, they still got it. I can’t condone what Fat Mike did at SXSW, but I can’t saw that I don’t think it’s funny since I wasn’t one of the ‘victims.’

That’s all for now.

Grandpas …

May 17th, 2010

Read a super short blog post over at Jalopnik and it made me think of my two Grandpas.

The Jalopnik blog post, if you read it, refereed to the manliest men blah blah blah. In the comments people posted some Grandpa stories. I guess these in mine.

I never met my Dad’s father, he passed away some years before my father moved to the US form Iraq. Yes, *that* Iraq. My Dad grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. As understand it my Grandpa was an older guy and a very large man. Everyone in our family says I have my Granddad’s hands. Apparently he too had huge hands. They lived in a predominately Armenian area of Iraq (being Armenian and all), I don’t really have the details. My Granddad ran a repair shop. You might ask what he repaired, the answer, everything. Your factory assembly line stopped working? He’d work on-site. Your car needed a new muffler? He’d fabricate one. Your toaster stopped working? He’d fix that too. I guess it makes sense. My Dad is his father’s son and I am indeed my father’s son.

I did meet my Mom’s dad. He didn’t speak any English as he was from Guatemala in Central America. I was maybe 5 years old when he came to visit. I remember thinking he smelled weird. He had one arm and would take his dentures out and chase me with them in his hand. It may sound strange but it was fun. He would also pretend he was eating candy and then produce real candy in a little trick.

You might remember from 5 seconds ago that I mentioned my Grandpa had one arm. Well, it wasn’t always like that. He was a foreman for a railroad bridge builder. He was known to run a tight ship. One day he made a bad decision to wipe a bit of cement off of a portable cement mixer. It ripped his arm off. It didn’t cut it off, it ripped and pulled it off. I’m guessing it hurt like hell. Well this wasn’t in some urban setting is was many miles away from a hospital via a dirt road. As story goes he calmed everyone down, had someone get a pickup truck, had another person apply pressure to the wound and told the driver to go faster. He made it to the hospital, the doctors couldn’t believe it, he had lost an incredible amount of blood, but they were able to save him. He continued to work well in to his 60’s. He was a tough man and there wasn’t an OSHA to go check out the job site or a lawyer ready to collect on his behalf. It was simply a hard life lesson. He moved on.

May they rest in peace.
